Tom has more than 13 years Australian and UK corporate and international tax experience, in professional services and as senior tax manager for a large multinational group, with a focus on Tax Controversy.

Tom has extensive Tax Controversy and Administrative Law experience, advising clients including large corporate groups, SMEs and high wealth individuals (including privately controlled groups) on all areas of ATO activity and Administrative Law matters – from preparation for ATO audit, management of ATO risk reviews and audits (including cross-border simultaneous audits), to audit defence and dispute resolution. Tom has had direct carriage of one of Australia’s longest running audits and was involved in the interlocutory proceedings for the Federal Court case of Consolidated Media Holdings Ltd v Commissioner of Taxation.

He has successfully drafted submissions and negotiated settlement on matters involving hundreds of millions of dollars under dispute, including obtaining full remission of interest and penalties.

Tom has represented Deloitte on various ATO committees, including the working group which produced the booklet “Small-to-medium enterprises and wealthy individuals: Our compliance approach” and the NTLG Reference Group’s re-writing of the ATO’s “Access & Information Gathering Manual.”
