Fifty50 series – bringing inspiring leaders to a balanced boardroom

The fifty50 series are gender balanced boardroom discussions in a supportive environment, which encourages robust conversations, varied perspectives and generates all-inclusive decision-making.

My calendar is often filled with boardroom lunches for which I represent a minority, so I decided to develop the Deloitte Private Fifty50 series (Fifty50) to change this. Being the first of its kind, Fifty50 is about capturing diversity of knowledge, experience and perspectives and promoting gender diversity discussion amongst private business. My overall vision is to develop relationships with a greater pool of female talent in the mid-market of Australia.

It is a strict program in that if it’s not Fifty50, then the lunch does not go ahead. Every guest invites a guest of the opposite gender with the intention to make this fun and change the way professional services are experienced.

I am passionate about connecting people and  believe we are all better working together, as our varied experiences as men and women lets us explore diversity of opinions. Two lunches are held every second month (May, July, Sep, Nov) with a key note speaker to add some spice to the discussions.

Narelle Kennedy, was the speaker at the inaugural Fifty50 boardroom lunch. Narelle is currently engaged on a significant project with the Business Council of Australia about driving innovation in Australia. She is also assisting Deloitte to develop a mandate for both business and government to enhance the state of innovation in Australia.

Key ‘5 forces for change’ takeaways were:

  1. Advanced technologies transfer business models
  2. Knowledge economy is real, pervasive and powerful for a competitive edge
  3. Shift from mass production to customisation and personalisation
  4. More opportunities from changing patterns of globalisation
  5. Changing working life.
